The sand sculpture festival will take place on the beach of the Peter and Paul Fortress from May 27 to September 30. This year the theme of the Festival is “Russia the Great”. The sand sculptures will be dedicated to the most important events in the history of Russia, the stages of formation and development of the country, its achievements in science, sports and culture. The large scale compositions will recall the battles of the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Great World War. The audience will see the legendary cruiser Aurora and the leader of the world proletariat, Vladimir Lenin. The themes of the conquest of Siberia and the exploration of the Cosmos, as well as Soviet sports and the 1980 and 2014 Olympic Games will receive their reflection on the Festival grounds. One of the most important places at the Festival will be the composition “Foundation of St. Petersburg”. A huge sandbox for a hundred square meters will be built for children.
The festival will last for more than four months, so the sculptures are made with the expectation of resistance to the elements for a long time. Deep knowledge of the work and many years of experience of the masters – the creators of sand masterpieces – allow us to be sure that the exhibition will preserve its original appearance until the beginning of autumn.
Constant spectators can appreciate the growing dimensions of the Festival and the complexity of compositions created by sculptors. This year visitors of the festival will be amazed by the nine-meter model of the Moscow Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed.
