The exhibition “The Art of the Peoples of Africa” was recently opened in the General Staff of the Hermitage. Within the framework of the permanent exposition, about 40 works of African art of the late XIX – early XX centuries from the collections of V.R. Arsenyev, S.A. Girdin and other collectors. Among the exposition items you can see masks-helmets, magic female figures and figures of fertility, ceremonial wands, weapons, pendants and ritual objects. Also, the exhibition presents sculptures created by the artist Fanizani Akuda from Zimbabwe. His stone works are quite unusual and exhibited at solo exhibitions in the US, Britain and Denmark.
