The data of the search engine Momondo indicate that the interest of independent travelers to travel to Russia during the matches of the Confederations Cup (June 17 – July 2) increased by 34% compared to the same period last year. The number of requests for air tickets to Moscow from other countries for this period increased by 29%, to St. Petersburg – by 31%, to Sochi – by 64%, to Kazan – by 404%. According to Momondo, the most popular searches for air tickets were among tourists from Germany (76% growth compared to the same period last year), from Sweden (43%), Denmark (11%), Ukraine (36%) and from Italy (64%).
The search engine Kayak noted that the number of search requests to Kazan for the period of the Cup of Confederations by foreign tourists grew by 177% compared to the same period of the last year. Analysts of the company attribute this to the fact that the city will host two of the most anticipated matches of the tournament: Mexico vs. Russia and Portugal vs. Mexico. Demand for Sochi in the same period rose by 96%, but, according to the representative of Kayak, this may be due to the attractiveness of the city as a sea resort. Skyscanner cites an alternative assessment: according to the search system, the demand of foreign tourists for the period of football matches grew only in Kazan (by 29%) and St. Petersburg (by 7%). Moscow and Sochi showed a decrease in demand by 9% and 25%, respectively.
